Soil and slope

The terroir

The Meuzin river cuts the appellation in two. To the north, towards Vosne, pebbles and alluvium washed down the slope give finer wines; to the south, towards Premeaux, deep limestone marls at the foot and near-bare rock at the top give firmer wines.

Memory of the place

A little history

Nuits gave its name to the Côte, and Saint George to the most famous of its climats, farmed since the Middle Ages. The Confrérie des Chevaliers du Tastevin was founded here in 1934. The Hospices de Nuits, founded in 1692, sell the wines of their vineyards every spring; growers have applied for Les Saint-Georges to be classified as Grand Cru.

The style

In the glass

The most structured wine of the Côte de Nuits: deep ruby, black cherry, blackcurrant, liquorice; with age, leather, game and truffle. Firm tannins and great ageing potential.

At the table

Game, beef bourguignon, coq au vin; Époisses.
